My name is Christy and I am the owner, maker, silversmith here at Laika Jewelry.  Laika Jewelry is named after my rescued schnauzer mix, my studio companion and nature muse on 26 acres of off-grid land in Hill County in Central Texas. My handmade pieces draw inspiration from night skies, wildflowers, local gemstones from the Big Bend mountains,prairies & woodlands with wildlife including opossums,coyotes, owls, bats, butterflies & many more. I hand craft each piece using sustainable, ethically sourced American Mined gemstones in recycled sterling silver, employing various Metalsmithing techniques like soldering, hand stamping, enameling, stone setting, and lost wax casting.  I became GIA certified Diamonds Graduate in 2003 & trained with two Dallas-based contemporary jewelers and took classes at the Creative Arts Center in Dallas, I blend traditional silversmith methods to create nature-inspired jewelry that honors both artistry and the environment in which I live & work.
